We are planning for four sequels: Hari and Harish

They are a talented director duo, responsible for the first Tamil stereoscopic Digital 3D film, Ambuli which releases this Friday. In a chat with sify com, the duo reveals their inspirations for the film and their aspirations as filmmakers apart from what went into its making…

What is your background in films?
Harishankar – I am an IT guy and I made Oru Iravu, the first viewpoint film, a year ago. It was about paranormal activity and I received lot of encouragement. Filmmaking is a passion. Harish Narayanan, my co director has assisted several directors and worked for two 3 D serials on Television. Mayavi and Paramapaadham, which ultimately didn't get through after a few shows. Satish G, our cameraman too worked in those serials.

Why did you decide to make a 3 D film?
Hari Narayanan – It's something different from the usual. For thirty years, the genre has been left untouched after My Dear Kuttichatthan. So we wanted to give it a try. Besides, now it's easier to make a 3 D film in the digital format and lot of interest in them has grown and theatres too are equipped to screen them.

Why the seventies theme to the film?
Harishankar- We set it in 1978 because it's the year that Colour and B/w films were both released. It's a transition period and a signature film for us. Also, another important factor was that we wanted to add to the mystery effect by setting it in a period that had no gadgets like mobiles, satellites, digicams, etc. It builds up the tension when the characters don't have all these means of communication.

Are you going to make a sequel?
Harishankar – We are planning to make four sequels but each will be set with a ten year gap. It is to show what happens to the Ambuli every ten years, as technology increases. Is he caught? But our next will not be a 3D film immediately after this since we don't want to be typecast!
