In my really early years, once I was four or five years old, my mum would read out stories to me, and he or she wouldn't finish them in order that I'd wish to hear the remainder of the tale the following time. That's where my passion for books started — from my mum.

SRK rescues Katrina Kaif from frenzied crowd
Shahrukh Khan is understood to be very protective of his female co-stars and he displayed this angle of his when he came to Katrina Kaif's rescue at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport. Both the celebs were in London for the shooting of Yash Chopra's untitled film. After the 35-day schedule, arrived on the airport in the course of the night but their mere few minutes' presence created a mini frenzy on the airport.
Katrina upon her arrival decided to stroll straight to her car whereas Shahrukh chose to talk to media about shooting and his blockbuster film RaOne's animator Charu Khandal.
When the gang pressed too just about Katrina Kaif, SRK quickly came forward and shielded her from the crowd, physically keeping people clear of her. He kept his arms across the actress and escorted her till her car.
It could also be mentioned here that SRK and Salman Khan don't seem to be on superb terms and as Salman's girlfriend, Katrina had always avoided working with SRK. Now, they're working together under Yash Raj banner and initially, there have been rumours within the media that the SRK-Kat starrer film may be named London Ishq but Shahrukh has denied the sort of claims.

Anupama Chopra's review: Blood Money
By Hindustan Times
Direction: Vishal Mahadkar
Actors: Kunal Khemu, Amrita Puri
Rating: **
At one point in Blood Money, the nasty boss of a diamond company gifts his protégé, Kunal, an expansive new office and a buxom secretary, with the instruction: Cabin aur Pauline, dono ka maza lo. It was my favourite of many unintentionally hilarious moments within the film.
Blood Money, like a couple of other Vishesh films (the Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt banner) before it, notably the match-fixing saga Jannat, is a morality tale in regards to the dangers of conspicuous consumption. Kunal, played by Kunal Khemu, is a middle-class MBA student who gets a role on the Trinity Diamond Company in Cape Town. We're told that it is the first time he's been on an airplane.
The company boss and his brother do not need much time to talk with him, however the newbie is given a furnished mansion to live in and cash to spend. Cut to: shopping, sightseeing and snazzy new car. Only his wife, Arzoo, played by Amrita Puri, wonders why the home reminds her of the Hansel and Gretel fairy tale, wherein the good old woman seems to be a witch.
'Witch' is a real understatement for Kunal's boss, 'Zaveri Sir', played by Manish Chaudhari, who's enthusiastic about every type of nefarious activities and is introduced to us as he drills a hole into his executive's leg. That is the primary scene of the film, so I AM NOT spoiling any mystery here. After Kunal clinches a large deal, Zaveri Sir takes him under his wing, this means that a lifetime of pool parties, private planes and a tryst at the conference room table with a horny co-worker. Of course, Kunal soon finds out that he has made a take care of the devil or, as he so originally puts it at interval point, "I sold my soul."
This standard issue plot worked much better in Jannat since the protagonist was edgier and the backdrop of match-fixing more intriguing. The arena of blood d iamonds, as created by debutant director Vishal S Mahadkar here, is essentially comic-book. The screenplay is slowed down by songs and the couple's love story, which in fact takes a beating once Kunal starts to party with the boss. Kunal Khemu works hard to make his character's dangerous dilemma real however the situations he's installed are ludicrous. Within the climax, he sprints through Cape Town with a profusely bleeding stab wound and beats up some burly men for good measure. Funnier still are the villains. Zaveri Sir wears long coats, chomps on cigars and loves to say "superb" with a cruel curl of his lips, while his brother, played by Sandip Sikand, looks comically angry the entire time. Zaveri Sir could also be keen on pronouncements similar to "Imaandari aadmi ko mahal mein nahin, footpath pe le jaati hai."
Blood Money finds some traction within the climax but it's too little, too late. By then, you might be disengaged and debating dinner choices.

Katrina in awe of Yash Chopra's sharpness!
By Hindustan Times
Actress Katrina Kaif, who's back on the town from London after wrapping up a shooting schedule of Yash Chopra's directorial venture, says she is in awe of the veteran filmmaker's immensely sharp working style.
"You know Yash ji could be very senior and everybody used to mention how young he's at heart. But it's a must to have a look at how sharp he is," Katrina told reporters here.
"He used to select up these very small such things as... if something was disturbing me or I USED TO BE not in an excellent mood, he used to simply pick it up and understand how to cope with it. So I FEEL he's an overly special person and we had a terrific time," she added.
Katrina was in London to work on Chopra's yet-to-be-titled love story opposite superstar Shah Rukh Khan.
This is her first project with King Khan, and that is also the primary time she is being directed by Chopra, whose last venture behind the came ra was Veer Zaara in 2004.
Katrina, 27, spoke at the sidelines of the launch of a book in response to her film Raajneeti, which presented her in a non-glamourous avatar and in a formidable role.
She didn't miss the danger to share sweet somethings about her Raajneeti director Prakash Jha too.
"One thing I WILL say about Prakash ji is that with all his knowledge and with all his intellect, he's an especially intelligent person and very knowledgeable...
"... especially at the subjects that he directs... (they can be) very complex subjects, but never for once does he make you're feeling that you're slightly inferior whatsoever to the information of politics or his knowledge of literature," said Katrina.
Last seen in Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, Katrina could also be working together with her former beau, actor Salman Khan in Ek Tha Tiger.

Jyothirmayi turns deglamorous
It is normal to see in film dom, actresses turning to more and more sexy and glamorous roles, whenever they feel that they have a deficit in the number of committed films. But in the case of Jyothirmayi, its seems to be a different sort of thinking that is guiding her these days. Jyothi is more into deglam roles these days, asking for more characters to prove her acting than to resort to skin shows. The idea behind all, according to her is simple-You can be in a glamorous role at any pint of your career. But quality roles come rarely'.
Jyothi will be seen in deglam characters like that she had done recently for the film 'Sthalam'- a movie about conserving mangroves. She has also recently agreed to play the role of the mother of an autistic child in the new movie 'Urava', to directed by Srrevaltsan, the scriptwriter of popular television soaps like 'Jwalayayi' and "Guruvayoorappan'.Irshad will appear as her screen pair in this movie which will have her as the character named Chandrika.
The actress who recently won hearts working as the ambassador for the women imitative from the state government 'Thantedam' is sure to go places, if she can thing this rightest ways, we suppose.

Vivek Oberoi to play Dawood in biopic
By Hindustan Times
Until a couple of days ago, actor Vivek Oberoi and director Sanjay Gupta were embroiled in a standoff over the role of Dawood Ibrahim in Shootout At Wadala. Sanjay called the star "a joke", Vivek stated that he read the script but "didn't just like the role at all", and had no option but to show it down.
And now, while Sanjay ropes in Sonu Sood to play the gangster in his sequel to Shootout At Lokhandwala (2007), in accordance with the lifetime of gangster Manya Surve, Vivek is readying to behave in Bollywood's first-ever biopic of Dawood that's prone to start sometime next year.
The actor is adept at bringing underworld dons to the massive screen. He started his career with a gritty portrayal of Chandu Nagre — supposedly in response to don Chhota Rajan — in Ram Gopal Varma's Company (2002) followed by a menacing Maya Dolas in Shootout At Lokhandwala.
Producer Amit Chandrra — who's producing Vivek's upcoming Kismat Luv Paisa Dilli (KLPD) also starring Mallika Sherawat — will back the brand new biopic too. The film aims to solve what gave the gangster cult status, besides showcasing his human side.
"The makers are yet to start out their research for the film. Plans were afoot to start the project sometime in 2012, but since Vivek is caught up with back-to-back films this year, they have got pushed it to 2013," says an insider as regards to Chandrra. "Amit isn't in a rush either, since any such project will need extensive homework."
Vivek's choc-a-bloc date diary includes films like Krrish 3, Zilla Ghaziabad and Kumar Taurani's next. When contacted, Chandrra — busy with the post production and editing of KLPD — confirms: "It's an idea we're all very excited about, but things are still at an overly nascent stage. Let's see the way it goes."
On Monday afternoon, Mumbai was reeling under the scorching sun. But a nondescript lane in Khotachiwadi, Girgaum, experienced rains way to a faux drizzle sequence for Kumar Taurani's next. Tentatively titled Jayanta Bhai, it features Vivek Oberoi and Neha Sharma.
Once we reached the sets amidst a clutch of heritage homes, a drenched Vivek was busy testing his sequence at the monitor, whilst wife Priyanka ate her bowl of pomegranate. The shot in question had Neha running out within the rain, with an umbrella in her hand, before stopping to strike up a talk with Vivek.
"My character is a gangster, but he's not within the same bracket as Chandu (Company, 2002) or Maya (Shootout At Lokhandwala, 2007). He's a loveable person, who likes to speak in English even though it's broken and wrong," says Vivek with a laugh.
Despite the long wait and hot weather, quite a lot of fans, including older women and kids, lined as much as take a sneak peek. All this, as debutant director Vinnil Markan calmly checked out the entire shots at the monitor, wh ile instructing his production team at the minutest of details like Vivek's hair and Neha's umbrella. Once the combo shot was okayed, Vivek stepped right into a corner and the unit moved the set around. Neha went in for a break. Soon, a production member informed Vivek of a running sequence throughout the lane. As we were about to leave, a production guy offered Vivek a couple of green chappals, however the actor checked out his blue slippers and said: 'Yeh continuity ki chappal hai, beta. (These chappals are supposed to be worn for continuity of the scene.)'
Bollywood's other Dawoods
Akshay Kumar's character in Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2 is supposedly according to the D Company leader, but will reveal his romantic side.
Sonu Sood will play Dawood in Sanjay Gupta's Shootout At Wadala, retelling the gangster's many brushes with rival Manya Surve within the '70s.
Emraan Hashmi portrayed Dawood's rise to power in Milan Luthria's O nce Upon A Time In Mumbaai... (2010). Ajay Devgn's brooding and rugged character of Malik in Ram Gopal Varma's Company was also apparently inspired by the feared don.

Let's speak about sex: Kalki Koechlin
By Hindustan Times
I watched Umrao Jaan yesterday. The old version. With Rekha Ji, who hasn't earned the title Ji just because of her long years in films but in addition as a result of her perfectionist attitude to acting. She's sublime and mature on this film despite being young on the time.
The film itself is a 'grown up' film, potent and tough hitting, stating the facts of lifetime of this young girl who was sold into prostitution. Though the film did average on the box office, it got critical appreciation and turned a classic. (THERE HAS BEEN the remake in 2006, which did poorly on the box office and wasn't viewed highly by critics either).
It made me think, why, 30 years down the line, is it still difficult to make a movie like Umrao Jaan? Why will we have such trouble portraying prostitution or sex in a mature and easy way?
Sure, we've learnt to be 'bold'. Learnt to turn off long legs in hot pants and using bad language with attitude. However the subject of sex continues to be taboo. Today, a movie can show girls in little or no clothing and men in tight pants gyrating in an item number and that's accepted as a 'family' movie. But a lady and a man fully dressed talking about sex? Now that's an adult movie. That doesn't make sense to me.
Sex is everywhere. We didn't get to a population of over a thousand million by wearing bikinis. We got there wearing sarees, salwars, burqas, dhotis and kurtas. It doesn't matter how covered up we're or aren't, we're humans and that involves sex.
If a film like Umrao Jaan 30 years ago could speak about sex so explicitly without really showing any skin, what are we doing today after we show only skin and refuse to speak about sex? I don't know, but something seems off. Maybe what we actually like is to disregard life around us, and dream about things we don't have. Maybe because today, growing capitalism ha s taught us to wish what we don't have. Maybe that's why gutsier films were made 30 years ago, when it was not really easy to survive credit cards, EMIs and social networking to live our dream life. Maybe 30 years ago, real life needed to be faced. What do you think?

Last night I was arrested in my hometown, outside an event that I was invited to legally stand on the sidewalk in an evening gown.
Let me explain, my partner and I were at an event for the Huffington Post, which I often write: 2011 Game Changers in one place place on Hudson Street. When we got the room we saw that about 200 protesters were obsessed Wall Street assemble peacefully and sing. Governor Andrew Cuomo they wanted, who will arrive at the event was the address. They were using a technique known as "human microphone" – as the sum mentioned laboriously repeated every word of the speaker – because they were told it was illegal to real megaphones.
